The Story Box Co. is a photo-tainment company that provides photo booth rentals, GIF booth, Boomerang booth, roving photography, instant printing and custom photo activations to clients and brands.
At The Story Box Co., we take pride and love what we do. Thus, we consider ourselves as experts in delivering not only a flawless event, but also providing fun elements for the guests with our open-style vintage photo booths.
Our clients never have to worry about the quality and design of the photos because we have in-house professional photographer and designer.
What is your vision/mission for your company?

How did you start your business? What were some adversities you faced when you faced when you first started out?
Hanz Lai always had a flair and passion for photography and designing. While doing freelance photography, he had an opportunity to provide instant printing and that was when he bought his first industrial dye-sub printer. Being adventurous, he decided to design and work with some carpenters to craft a box that could hold his professional equipment and allow his clients to experience photo-taking differently. Till date, we have more than 12 customised booths and services – The Story Box, The Story Box Jr., The Amour, The Lumi, The Mirrox and etc.
With zero background in business, we took it slowly and steadily. At first, there were a lot of technical issues that we had to handle and the logistics for each event was always a headache. However, we managed to work things out and are currently on the track to grow our business.
Any trades secrets you can reveal?
Be fun, be open and be genuine to all our clients. We listen, deliver what we promised and try our best to accommodate at all times.
Most memorable experience since starting your business?
There’s no single most memorable experience but there’s always a sense of achievement and accomplishment whenever we receive feedback from couples that our booths are cool and they love the booth experience!
What is one thing you would like your customers to know about your company?
Our vintage-style photo booths are handcrafted and add a level of class to every kind of event. And we never reuse any photo template as we design all template from scratch to fit your theme.
Furthermore, there will be no more waiting for the images to be uploaded online after the event. Instead, you and your guests can just scan a QR code that brings them to your personalised gallery page. These photos are uploaded real-time after each photo session! And guessed what? No. Extra. Money. That’s right! This feature is included in all photo booth packages. All we need is wifi!
What was your first job?
I think the first proper pay rolled job was a programmer cum graphic designer role. But soon after, I started venturing out to become a freelance photographer cum media specialist.
What aspects of your personality can we see in your work?
The innovation, the excitement and hopefully the beaming smiles from our clients.

Any future plans in the pipeline?
We will be building more classy booths to suit different type of events, designing more premium backdrops and to continue introducing more photo-tainment solutions to our clients. We are adventuring into virtual photo booth, contactless photo booth experiences and also virtual zoom wedding live streaming for virtual or hybrid events.
Who was your biggest influence when you were starting out?
Steve Jobs and his ability to innovate! I really love one of his line, that is – “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
In your own words, starting your own business is…?
One of the hardest things we have ever done, but also the most rewarding. It’s a constant learning curve but it’s made us a better, more understanding, more patient and more kick ass company!
